Jerry has more than 32 years of experience in trying cases, on behalf of both plaintiffs and defendants, in the state and federal courts of North Carolina and West Virginia.
Born in Norfolk, Virginia and raised in Lynchburg, Virginia, Jerry received his B.A. degree, with distinction, from The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1977. He received his law degree from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law, College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia in 1980. Jerry has a Peer Review Rating of AV ® Preeminent ™.
Jerry is a member of the Gaston County Bar, North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Advocates for Justice, West Virginia State Bar, and Virginia State Bar.
Jerry and his wife, Daria, the associate pastor for First Presbyterian Church, Belmont, have four grown children and live in Belmont. In addition to spending time with his family, Jerry is actively involved with his church, including teaching Sunday school, serving on the Weekday School Committee, as well as work within the governance of the Presbytery.
After graduate school, Jim became a Professor of Management in the School of Business at Georgia State University, Atlanta, Georgia, where he was also appointed as a Senior Associate of the W.T. Beebe Institute for Personnel and Employment Relations. In addition to consulting and continued business research, presentations, and publications, Jim taught a wide range of courses in the field of management, including the first human resources course taught in the South on conflict management and negotiation. Jim has acted as a legal expert witness in employment law cases and conducted research and organizational change projects for more than a dozen Fortune 500 companies as well as NASA.
Jim combined his interests in law and management in 1995 by moving to Gaston County to become Firm Executive Manager for the law firm of Tim L. Harris and Associates. He also became a member of the North and South Carolina State Bars and began to represent persons injured on the job. When Mr. Harris passed away in 1999, Jim helped form Harris, Ragan, Patterson & Rodgers where he acted as managing partner. Jim also managed Ragan & Ragan, the present firm he and Jerry formed, until 2011 when he became 'of counsel' to the firm. He continues to be very active in protecting the rights of injured workers and those harmed by the negligence of others.
Jim is a member of the Gaston County Bar, North Carolina State Bar, North Carolina Advocates for Justice, South Carolina State Bar, and Virginia State Bar.
Jim is originally from Virginia and graduated from the University of Virginia. Jim is married to Alice Ray Ragan, retired Director of Health Services for Gaston County Schools. Jim and Alice live in Gastonia and are active members of First Presbyterian Church, Gastonia. They have two grown children. Jim also has a special interest in Gaston College, which he has supported for a number of years.
Mary Anne Wilkins - Legal Assistant
With more than 40 years of experience in the legal profession, including attaining the status of being a North Carolina State Bar certified paralegal, Mary Anne possesses a high level of knowledge, skill, and experience which she combines with her sincere compassion in her work for our clients. She is married to a retired minister, with three grown children and four grandsons. Her free time is spent enjoying her family, reading and cooking.
Leah Robinson Grant - Legal Assistant
A life-long resident of Gaston County, Leah has worked with our law firm and its predecessor for more than 12 years. As a graduate of the paralegal studies program at Gaston College, she has also attained the status of being a North Carolina State Bar certified paralegal. Leah enjoys her casework with on behalf of our clients and their families. Leah, her husband, and their two daughters reside in Stanley, North Carolina. She loves being active and spending most weekends watching her teenage daughter play softball.
